Since your mother is a nurse, although most of applications which she will be using will be either in ms office format, or specialized software for the particular hospital. In both the cases, you can opt for a netbook with Atom energy efficient processor. This processor will take less battery life compared to other intel processor. We suggest you HP or DELL Mini Laptops which will have 6 Cell Premium battery. With at least backup for 6 to 8 hrs ideal condition. since mini laptops are 10.1" starting in these brands, weight will also be around 1.2Kgs with a neat keyboard layout.
