Connecting Sony Vaio laptop to Maxter external hard drive?

My crony does not know what specific wire or device connects these dual units. Any USB cable? Will they fit? Are they incompatible? Who can you acquire a device from? Thanks.

There are 2 suggestions to question “Connecting Sony Vaio laptop to Maxter external hard drive?”

  1. I also have a maxter hard drive called my-passport i use the mini usb cable to connect it to my laptop.
But some old external hard drive requires an external power source.
make sure that there is no power connectors(female port) in the external hard drives .
If there is a power port you have to give a power to the external drive (5v)

the simplest answer for your question is :- mini usb cable (here is the linkof a clear image of the cable )

  2. Okay first off… Maxtor drive are dead and gone and when they went bye bye their drives quality just dropped off the face of the Earth. The connect though should one of though; either USB or fire wire. Odds are unless the laptop is older than the XP operation system you should have USB ports. If its a desktop style external a standard USB cable that goes from your printer to your computer will be what you want. If a laptop style… it will be a mini-USB to USB that you need and some required two rectangle ends on one side and the mini on the other. Its not proprietary its just the only to get one is by buying a laptop enclosure as that cable isn’t usually sold separately.
