go with the acer, 1gig ram and xp make a happy couple. also, so long as your 12 year old isn’t gaming on his laptop, then by all means it should fit his demands while going green and not digging a hole through your pocket.
They are both netbooks, and not as powerful as a full sized notebook.
As far as which to get….. I don’t know… I would likely choose the Acer.. just because you have more Ram (depending on dell model), and you have a hard drive (Dell has a Solid state drive.. faster but less storage).
I personally would get one running Linux.. but most people unfortunately prefer xp…
