You have to have an XP cd.

Make sure you find the SATA drivers for your computer before attempting to install XP. Without the SATA drivers you can't even begin the installation process.

The best way is to slipstream the drivers to the XP cd.

A guide:

You'll need to have a Windows XP disk in order to do this. Downgrading will cause you to lose all your files and settings that are currently on the laptop. Before you begin this route, you'll want to make sure that Sony has drivers for this model laptop. Sometimes Windows XP isn't offered on a given platform and thus no drivers are developed for it.

In your case, Win XP drivers are available for download from sony.com, so you can downgrade if you so desire. If you need to buy a disk, your best bet would be to shop at www.newegg.com and purchase an OEM disk, cheaper than retail.
