Use dropbox.
It’s a freeware module which creates a common printed make a difference in between your computers. It functions over a Internet so it doesn’t make a difference if a machines have been upon opposite networks.

You can set up file sharing on your home computer and then use a free dynamic DNS service to allow you access to your computer from any network.

You also use this service with remote desktop and then let your home PC be the work horse for anything you do and making the netbook essentially a dummy terminal but for college you may just want the home PC to be a file server.
