Could be the atmosphere or the equipment interfering with the signal. I think your best option is to try a wifi dongle, Basically an external usb stick that picks up the wifi for your computer instead of using the card in your laptop which may not be strong enough.
Called Wifi Dongles, google that and you will get loads up. Below is one i found that is pretty good for less than £15.
