I’m unequivocally bad with computers, though we have been you do the little research. First of all, I’m the college tyro as well as we have the parsimonious budget, we unequivocally need portability. My prior laptop, that broke, was the 15.4 in. as well as was most as well big. we do not fool around mechanism games as well as we do not do video or print editing. we unequivocally usually make make use of of the mechanism for internet, word estimate as well as excel. Most of the twelve in. laptops have been approach over my budget. Someone recomended the eee pc, that is portable, though runs linux, that we have no thought how to use. Also, that eee pc is better? do we need the 512 or 1gb memory? Will programs not be concordant with that? Someone afterwards pronounced get the desktop as well as an eee pc, though that will price 1000. we can get the unequivocally poor desktop from dell for 400, though it won’t have the great modem or the graphics card, that I’m not even certain we will need. we can get the dell laptop for about (new) $750 with 2gb mem, the graphics label (128mg) as well as alternative great features, though it might be as well big. Help!!!
Also, someone referred to the Everex stepnote, that is the ligth 12.1 in. notebook, for usually $600 or $700, though we can’t find it anywhere. Has any one even listened of this?

well look at this one
1gb is what most programs are compatible with… linux is not compatible with most programs in the us but it is with most in europe
in know you say that a 15.4 is to big but dell has on for $499 that would meet you needs plus if your school has dell computer check with the computing department they may have a deal with dell where you can get a discount on you pruchase.
You can get a refurbished DELL laptop with warranty and 3 % student discount. You should go with an integrated graphics card since you dont play games or do photo editing- any notebook will do. Try to get at least 256mb of ram, windows xp, and at least a 1 ghz pentium 3 or 4 processor.
A system like this can be bought for around $350- $400
