Well to just connect the two, you need to look at what types of video-out ports are on your computer, and what types of video-in ports are on your television. Hopefully you can match them up! If not, you’ll have to find adapters.
If you get them hooked up together you will be able to see your computer display on the television.
If you’re confused about the outputs and inputs, the best thing you can do is snap some really clear pictures of the jacks on your TV, and take that and your laptop in to a local computer shop. They should be able to help you out.
