if she is just using it to write papers and use the internet, then buying a netbook should be perfectly fine. a laptop has more memory on it for people who download music, games, software, etc.

so it really depends on what you would be using it for. netbooks are cheaper and are conveniently smaller.

if she happens to want to use it download music or anything, you can always purchase a portable hard drive, which arent necessarily expensive.

also, netbooks do not come with a cd/dvd- rom drive. im not sure if you can purchase these or not, but if she were to buy computer games or wanted to watch a dvd or burn cds on the computer, then i would recommend a laptop.

talk to your sales person, they will be able to narrow it down based on the needs of the user.

The netbook, obviously. Since she's a 14 yr old girl, she's obviously not into games and more like online socializing and stuff. The main drawback on laptops are the short battery life, whereas a netbook can even last for 10 hours.

I would prefer a full sized laptop because if she has to type a lot of papers for school, then I would want to use a full sized keyboard. Little netbook keyboards are very annoying to type large papers with.
